CH. ASGHAR ALI GHURAL
Chaudhry Asghar Ali Ghural was born in 1927 in Ghural village, District Gujrat, to the village headman (Nambardar) Chaudhry Fateh Ali Ghural. He received his primary education in his native village and passed his middle school examination from the school in the neighboring village of Ajnala with distinction, securing the first position. Later, in 1944, he completed his matriculation with exemplary marks from Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa Labana High School, Tanda, which was considered a major educational achievement in that era.
He moved to Lahore for higher education and employment, where he took up a job as a clerk in the Irrigation Department. Alongside his job, he continued to quench his thirst for education and successfully passed both the Munshi Fazil (Persian/Arabic proficiency) and F.A. (Intermediate) examinations within the same year. Subsequently, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree, a Diploma in Journalism from the University of the Punjab, and an LL.B. degree from Lahore Law College—serving as a living testament to his hard work and love for knowledge. Chaudhry Asghar Ali Ghural possessed a passion for writing and research from a very young age; his first piece was published in the daily Nawa-i-Waqt when he was just 18 years old. During the peak of the Pakistan Movement, he contributed fully through his pen, and his articles were published regularly. Hameed Nizami, the founder of Nawa-i-Waqt, appreciated his talents through a special letter, which was a matter of great honor for him.
Following the creation of Pakistan, he returned to his ancestral village and stepped into practical politics. At that time, feudal influence was dominant in the region, against which he established a local organization named the "Ghareeb Party" (Poor Man's Party), which quickly gained public popularity. Due to not meeting the legal age limit, he could not personally contest the 1951 elections; however, his backed candidate secured 40% of the votes, proving to be a major shift in the region's politics. Later, he returned to Lahore and served as a Sub-Editor for the daily Nawa-i-Waqt. Returning to Gujrat in 1955, he simultaneously pursued law, journalism, and politics. He joined the Azad Pakistan Party and became its President for District Gujrat. By winning the local government elections in 1962, he challenged the monopoly of the Nawabzada family. During this period, he also played a key role in Chaudhry Zahoor Elahi's election campaign and contributed significantly to his victory.
In the 1965 general elections, Chaudhry Asghar Ali Ghural filed his nomination papers for a National Assembly seat. At that time, the politics of District Gujrat were dominated by influential personalities and government-backed candidates. Continuous pressure was exerted on him by various political and official circles to withdraw from the electoral race to ensure the victory of a specific candidate. Messages were sent through influential figures for this purpose, and prominent political leaders visited him personally. However, Chaudhry Asghar Ali Ghural took a principled stand and flatly refused to step down. On this occasion, he delivered a witty and historic remark that is still remembered today as an example of his courage and self-respect: "Before this, Nawabzada Asghar Ali Khan withdrew and took his name back. My name is also Asghar; if I do the same, I will stop naming my children Asghar." This sentence vividly reflects his resolve, adherence to principles, and refusal to bow before pressure.
Later, in 1966, he was elected as a member of the District Council Gujrat, further expanding his scope of public service. In the 1970s, he joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and served as its District General Secretary. He participated in several national and provincial elections, always prioritizing principled politics. Following the imposition of Martial Law in 1977, when political activities were banned, he actively participated in the Lawyers' Movement. He played a vibrant role in conventions, protest rallies, and the democratic struggle, as a result of which he was arrested in August 1983 and detained for three months. In 1988, he was elected as a member of the Punjab Bar Council from the Gujranwala Division. In 1991, he won the District Council Gujrat elections and during the same tenure, played an instrumental role in getting his nephew, Chaudhry Amjad Ghural (Retired Judge of the High Court), elected as Chairman.
As a literary figure, author, columnist, and journalist, Chaudhry Asghar Ali Ghural achieved nationwide fame. In 1966, he wrote a comprehensive biography of the 1965 war hero, Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, which received immense appreciation across the country and was awarded a prestigious literary prize by the Pakistan Writers Guild. Later, his other books, "Islam ya Blazm" (1988) and "Kalabagh Dam Pakistan ke Liye Nazique" (Kalabagh Dam is Indispensable for Pakistan - 2012), were also published. He was counted among the prominent lawyers of District Gujrat, and due to his humanitarian nature, he often refrained from charging fees to the poor. He was among the founding members of the Gujrat Press Club and was also elected as its President. His columns were regularly published in the daily Nawa-i-Waqt and Jang, and his writings under the title "Halke Phulke Andaz" (In a Light Manner) remained highly popular among readers. He passed away in 2017 and was laid to rest in his ancestral village, Ghural. His life stands as a brilliant example of knowledge, adherence to principles, democratic struggle, and public service, serving as a guiding light for future generations.

CH. KHALID ASHGAR GHURAL
Chaudhry Khalid Asghar Ghural, the son of the distinguished jurist, literary figure, author, columnist, and politician Chaudhry Asghar Ali Ghural, was born in 1966 in the village of Ghural. He received his primary education from Sir Fazl Ali School, Gujrat, and successfully completed his matriculation examination from the same institution in 1982. Later, he obtained his graduation degree from Government Zamindar College, Gujrat, in 1986. Continuing his higher education, he completed his LL.B degree from Punjab University in 1996 and initially started practicing law in Gujrat from his respected father's chamber. However, due to subsequent political engagements, he could not continue law as a regular profession.
Chaudhry Khalid Asghar Ghural formally stepped into practical politics during the 2002 general elections, when he was issued a Provincial Assembly ticket by the Pakistan Muslim League (Q). Securing immense public support in this election, he achieved a spectacular victory and was declared successful by obtaining 38,000 votes, while his opponent, Nawabzada Muzaffar Ali Khan, managed to get 31,000 votes. Following this success, he was assigned responsibilities as a Provincial Parliamentary Secretary, where he played an active role in resolving the issues of his constituency and executing development projects.
The 2008 general elections were another important milestone in his political career, where he once again faced Nawabzada Muzaffar Ali Khan. In this election as well, Chaudhry Khalid Asghar Ghural demonstrated his strong political grip and public popularity, winning with a clear margin by securing 46,000 votes, while his opponent obtained 23,000 votes. This victory further strengthened his political credibility and earned him a prominent position among the key political figures of the area.
Although he could not be issued a ticket by the Q-League in the 2013 and 2018 elections, he remained continuously active during this period in resolving public issues, maintaining social contacts, and participating in political activities within his constituency, thereby preserving his public popularity. In the 2024 general elections, he was once again awarded a ticket by the Q-League for a Provincial Assembly seat. In this election, he once again displayed complete political strength, securing victory with 46,000 votes. In this election, the runner-up, Nawabzada Haider Mehndi, obtained 34,000 votes.
Chaudhry Khalid Asghar Ghural's political life reflects continuous public contact, strong electoral performance, and deep political influence in the region. His successes are proof that he did not limit his politics merely to power, but kept it attached to public service, the development of his constituency, and political stability. He is counted among those prominent political personalities of his area who have proven their presence and influence in every era.
